Why is your emotional and mental health important? Emotional health is important because it affects how you deal with and express emotions. Mental health is important because it affects how you deal with and process information. Both are vital because they impact your health, emotions, and thoughts. Having a good foundation in both can improve your outlook on life.

Read: 

  • Read Project Happiness blog posts. Project Happiness seeks to help people gain and find happiness in their lives, improving their emotional and mental health.

Watch: 

  • Watch ASU's Mental Health video compilation. Arizona State University compiled videos to help improve your mental and emotional health.

Do: 

  • Self-reflect. Self-reflect on your emotions of the day. What emotions did you experience and how did they affect you? This can serve as a record and a resource on how to deal with complicated emotions. 

  • Make a gratitude journal. At the end of each day, make a list of at least 4 things that you were thankful for. What you are thankful for can be as big as getting a raise at work to eating breakfast. Remembering there are things to be thankful for can give you a positive mindset. 

  • Make time for a 'mental health break'. If you feel overwhelmed or stress, do something fun and/or relaxing. Listen to music, watch a funny cat video, or read a book. Sometimes your mind and body need a reset and finding something that destresses you can help you become more grounded, especially in stressful times like these.
